Tourist Information

Tourist Information

Most people who visit Tengboche start by flying to Lukla, although some still walk up from the road head at Jiri. The walk from Lukla to Tengboche takes three days including an acclimatization day in Namche Bazaar. The trail is mostly good except for a few landslides caused by soil erosion from overgrazing and deforestation. There are good lodges on the way as well as places to camp. It is easy to hire a porter in Lukla or Jiri and this is beneficial for the local community as it creates employment.

The National Park entrance is at Monjo before Namche and there is a Park entrance fee of 1000 NRs.The climbing of trekking peaks requires extra permission as does filming in the Park area. Fishing and hunting are prohibited. The collection of animals or plants or any other material for scientific research purposes requires official permission from the Department of National parks and Wildlife conservation.

Tengboche lies at an hight of 3867m and this can be difficult if you are not acclimatized to the Altitude. Decisions that you make before you come Trekking can ensure that your visit has a positive impact. In particular you might think of bringing a small Donation or buying something at the monastery shop. It is possible to visit the monastery and there is further information about this in Questions.

Finally when you visit please remember to bring a camera in case you meet the Yeti !!!
