Porter's Lodge

Deforestation is a major concern especially in a fragile ecology such as Tengboche where due to the cold and altitude trees grow extremely slowly. The lodges provide accommodation for tourists and trekking staff. However, previously there were no facilities for porters in Tengboche. They had to sleep in the open forest in extremely harsh conditions and would light small fires to survive the cold winter nights. With the substantial help [Rs. 100,000. -] of the Khumjung Village Committee a simple lodge has been constructed for the porters.

It is well used and by providing shelter for the porters reduces the need for wood to be cut for open fires. The singing heard from there during the long winter evenings would suggest that it is appreciated.
